Battle of the Liquid Lips

Hey guys!

Welcome to the epic battle of the liquid lips! Today, I’ve chosen 5 liquid lipsticks from my collection that’ll battle it out to determine which out of the bunch is worth your cashola! I wore them all for a whole day and I documented my thoughts from first application to removal! Today’s contestants are; Australis Velourlips in PA-REE, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina, Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Scorpio, NYX Lingerie in Embellishment and finally, TheBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Charming! I wonder who will be victorious.

‘Round and ’round like a horse on a Carousell

Hey guys!

Today, I’m going to be talking about an app that I think everyone who hoards things needs. I collect a lot of makeup and part of that is because I love it and part of it is because I want to talk about new things on my blog a lot but lately I’ve been watching A LOT of project pans, declutter, and minimalism videos on YouTube and I’ve become inspired to downsize my collection a bit. Especially with my Journey to Cruelty-Free. I’d originally been using Depop to try to sell some things but I never made much from it so I found a new app called Carousell and within the last week I made over $100+ so I just HAD to talk about it with you. This post isn’t sponsored, it’s just a friendly suggestion to those who want to make money and turn trash into treasure!

Holiday Gifts for $25 and Under!

Hey guys!

Like I said in the $10 and Under post, December is basically holiday month, I thought that I’d like to do a little bit of a series on gifts that you could purchase for others or yourself. These gifts will be suitable for Kris Kringle, Secret Santa, etc. and then of course just little gifts with your friends if you’re giving small gifts or you’re on a budget. There are so many gifts that I want to talk about and I am just so ready to help you with some gifts!

pink-divider-no-background-md

gifts under 25

As I said in the last post, many of the gifts that I’ll share will be bath related mainly because it is a universal gift. Everyone deserves to pamper themselves and relax, not just women, so don’t be afraid to give these to anyone.

The first gift that I want to talk about is the Baylis & Harding Royale Bouquet Ultimate Luxury Gift Set*
This set is available at Big W and is $20, which is pretty good value for the amount of products that you’re getting in the set! You get a body wash, a bath creme, and a soap that is black raspberry and fig scented, and a shower creme and bath soak crystals that are peach, poppy and vanilla scented! You also get a polisher but I’m not entirely sure what that does so I have not used it yet haha. If you know what to do with it, I’d love some guidance! All of the products smell really gorgeous and you will definitely feel very pampered after using this set!

9bd0457b77ea7393240404228d8ab75b

The second gift that I wanted to talk about is the Australis Mini Velourlips set. You can find this set at Priceline for $14.95 and I believe that there are three different sets, light, dark, bold. I love the Australis Velour lips and this gift pack is a great way to try 5 different colours. If you like the colour, you can go and buy the full sized one when you’re finished with the mini! The mini is also great for travel because they fit right into little bag pockets or your clutch when you’re out.

9bd0457b77ea7393240404228d8ab75b

The third gift(s) that I want to talk about is the Shower Moose and Body Scrub from Oh Deer Sugar! I love these products and the Christmas collection is especially nice if you or your gift recipient love Christmas smells! The Body Scrub retails for $19.50 and the Shower Moose retails for $22 and they last quite a long time, especially if you are using them as more of a treat than an everyday thing. Although I’ll admit, I treat myself to these items every day because I need a little pick-me-up very often haha.

9bd0457b77ea7393240404228d8ab75b

The fourth gift that I wanted to talk about is the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Duo, which is $19.95 at Priceline. While you’re pampering yourself, give your nails some spice with the Sally Hansen Gel Nail Duo! I love the Sally Hansen Gel polishes and this set is a really great deal if you don’t already have the gel top coat.

9bd0457b77ea7393240404228d8ab75b

The fourth gift that I wanted to talk about is the LUSH Mask of Magnaminty! Masks are fantastic ways to treat your skin and this one is particularly good. This one is self-preserving so it lasts longer than the fresh face masks. It retails for $13.95 in the small pot or $25.95 in the large pot. So technically the large pot doesn’t fit into this post but if you could spare an extra dollar on getting someone a good gift, then this one is really good and good to get in either size!

I hope that this gave you a few ideas for what you might get for someone this Christmas!

MOTD: La Muerte – Book Of Life HALLOWEEN LOOK

Hey, guys!

I’ve always wanted to do a La Catrina (Sugar Skull) look but I’ve always been super hesitant because they can be extremely controversial and offensive because it is a cultural makeup look. It also happens to be the standard ‘white girl halloween makeup’ each year. So to half get involved and get my cosplay loving self into action, I decided to try to recreate one of my favourite characters, La Muerte, from the Book of Life. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I’d highly recommend it. It is one of my favourites 🙂

pink-divider-no-background-md

Dia de los Muertos is very important to me and while I don’t celebrate it in Australia, I do recognise it and I think that remembering our loved ones who’ve passed is really important. The final day of Dia de los Muertos is also my birthday, so I feel a special connection with the holiday haha.
For a little background on the holiday itself, November 1st is typically spent remembering children who have passed (Dia de los Innocentes/Angelitos) and November 2nd (my birthday) is spent remembering adults who have passed (Dia de los Muertos). La Catrina is the Lady of Death and she looks after those who have passed on and by remembering and praying for those who’ve passed, we are helping them on their second journey through the afterlife.

the_book_of_life_03_bestmoviewalls_by_bestmoviewalls-d7yv60j

La Muerte from the Book of Life is La Catrina. In the movie, La Muerte rules the Land of the Remembered and her husband, Xibalba, rules the Land of the Forgotten. Xibalba hates the Land of the Forgotten so they make a bet concerning who the mortal Maria would marry out of either of her childhood best friends: Manolo or Joaquin. The winner would become the ruler of the Land of the Remembered.

I adore La Muerte and Xibalba so much that I had to buy the Pop figures. La Muerte was actually super hard to find!

Anyway, enough of that. Here is the look that I created for La Muerte:

12092372_10153450540997530_1606591121_n

I wore a wig that suited the look the best. I didn’t have a nice black wig to wear and I thought that this purple wig still gave a similar effect. I tried something new with this look. I actually tried out the glue eyebrow method of blanking out eyebrows. I used regular stick glue and a spoolie to smooth down my brows and then I powdered them with a translucent powder. I did this twice and then covered them with an orange concealer to mute the blue tones from my brows. After that, I covered my face in a near white cream stick foundation and it almost completely blanked out my eyebrows (as can be seen in the photos below), so I’ll try to do it a couple more times next time I try this method. The foundation is actually very pigmented, it covered most of my spots, so it is definitely a matter of repeating the brow cover process.

Australis Velourlips New Shades!

Hey Guys!

As I’ve mentioned here in the past, I’m very fond of the Australis Velourlips so I thought that I’d better talk about what I think of the new shades that they brought out this month!

I picked up all the shades but one (LOS ANGEL-ES), I missed it because I really didn’t think that I’d suit the colour. The other colours were all very exciting to me. I know I’ve been talking a lot about having a matte black liquid lipstick at Priceline and now Australis have given us what we have been wanting!

pink-divider-no-background-md

The picture above that I got from Australis’ Instagram shows the middle colour as a red but that colour is definitely a blood orange type of colour as opposed to a red. Anyway, here are my photos of four of the new shades.

T to P: MEL-BURN, MUM-BAI, SAN-FRAN-DISCO, BAE-JING

I was so excited that they had finally made a black lipstick that I’d probably gotten my hopes up too high. The pigmentation of MEL-BURN isn’t the best but I guess you could layer it a little bit as I did in this swatch. There’s also a black shade in their Colour Inject range so if you’re after a ‘drugstore’ black lipstick, I’d recommend giving that a go if you aren’t a fan of the Velourlips formula.
MUM-BAI looks a lot like the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania, which I always wanted but I wasn’t the biggest fan of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams formula since trying other liquid lipsticks. The colour is really gorgeous and I’m very excited to wear it after Liptember!
SAN-FRAN-DISCO is a gorgeous orange (I’m as surprised as you that I think an orange is gorgeous). I wore it the other day and I loved how it looked. It was so Halloween appropriate and Liptember appropriate haha.
BAE-JING is the most perfect lip colour in the whole world. As soon as I swatched it I was like, MINEMINEMINE.

nemo-seagulls_20130323

LOS-ANGEL-ES is similar colour to LUN-DUN but it is more of a light pink and it is definitely more neon. I can’t pull off neon colours at all but I think that those who have more of a tan would suit the colour much better than I would.

The formula doesn’t seem to be any different to the older lip colours, which might be upsetting to some but I can basically wear concrete on my lips so I love them. As some might have noticed, the Velourlips have gone up in price by 50c which is a little upsetting but it is still a very affordable price. I would definitely recommend trying out these shades in store if you have the chance.

I hope that you’re all enjoying your day!

Big, Bold and Beautiful! Liptember Recommendations

Hey guys!

In a week’s time, I will be starting my month of bold lip colours, Liptember. I didn’t realise it was so close! The colours that you can choose for Liptember are; blue, green, orange, red, purple, yellow and pink. I’m ready and I’m going to share with you some shades that can help you to be prepared for the big, bold and beautiful month of September!

Australis Velourlips in MAL-I-BOO, NY-CEE, TOK-I-O and RIO-D.

Picture from Ma Sucree’s Makeup Musings

It has been very evident on this blog that I adore the Australis Velourlips, so naturally, I’d want to wear them as much as humanly possible and incorporate them into my Liptember challenge. I actually don’t own MAL-I-BOO and RIO-D, which is why I wanted to use another photo to share them with you all but I think that at some point during Liptember, I’ll probably pick the shades up. I wear the other two shades regularly and can’t recommend them enough. Make sure you apply a lip balm before applying these so that your lips don’t dry out too much! You can purchase these from Australis or Priceline!

NYX Macaron Lippies

NYX-Macaron-Lippies-Swatches

I own Blue Velvet, Violet, Pistachio and Chambord and I would recommend all of them. They are a cream finish, which can be problematic when you are trying to not get this kind of colour all over your face haha. The shades that I own are very pigmented and I’ve only heard that Citron and Key Lime have pigment issues. All of the colours that I own stain the lips, so you can even dab them with a tissue and they should still be opaque. You can purchase these from all over the place, unfortunately they don’t sell this line at Target in Australia, from memory. They do, however, sell the Wicked Lippies, although I don’t know that I would really recommend them. They do have some nice colours but the pigmentation is all over the place hahaha.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Blue Velvet, Redrum, I’m Royalty and Anna Nicole

Zoe from NewbyToBeauty owns pretty much every colour of these Jeffree Star Lipsticks and I just recently bought Blue Velvet for myself. These lipsticks have so much hype online and I think that it is very deserved. The colours are stunning and they’re great quality for the money that you play. I buy my Jeffree Star lipsticks from Rouche Boutique but you can also buy them directly from Jeffree Star Cosmetics. I’d recommend buying them from Rouche though because they are based in Australia, they have great customer service and they have fast shipping! What more could you want?

pink-divider-no-background-md

Colour Pop Ultra Matte Lips in Mr. Blonde, Jellies, Dr. M and Be-Dazzled

8-ultra-matte-webs

There are so many more shades of these Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks but I thought I would just stick to the most recently released shades, which are actually shades that I picked up! I’m actually waiting on Jellies, Dr. M, Clueless and Midi, which I will be doing a review post on very soon. Just waiting on good ol’ reliable AUSPost (can you feel the sarcasm?).
I’ve heard some mixed opinions on these, most of the criticism comes from the fact that they are really drying but I don’t mind that. I’ve dealt with those Me Now Lip colours so I think that these will be fine. All matte lipsticks are drying, it comes with the finish but it is something to think about. These are incredibly cheap, which is why I wanted to mention them. But the shipping to Australia is rather expensive. You can purchase these from Colour Pop Cosmetics.

pink-divider-no-background-md

There are a lot of other brands bringing out similar colours like Pretty Zombie Cosmetics, LA Splash, Coloured Raine, etc. but I haven’t tried out the brand and neither have any of my close friends. Even BH Cosmetics have just brought out a line of Pop Art lipsticks, which feature similar colours, which might be of interest. I also know that MAC does amazing reds and has just brought out a blue with their recent Mattes collection.

I hope that this has helped some of you get ideas for Liptember or might just help you find where to buy unusual lip colours! I hope that you’re all having a beautiful day!

NYX FACE Awards: Mermaids Mermen

Hey guys!

I’m a little late with this post, I didn’t have a whole lot of time in the break to do much as far as ‘creative’ makeup goes so I wasn’t able to get this up on time but I have it here now and I hope that you enjoy!

pink-divider-no-background-md

So the theme of this challenge was Mermaids and Mermen and I did think about possibly doing a merman makeup look but then I had some other ideas and yeah. I actually was set on doing something completely different to what I ended up with! Today, I will be sharing with you my Futuristic – Galaxy Mermaid.

18

When I originally thought about it, I wanted to do a galaxy pattern on my forehead or around my eyes like a bit of a mask and incorporate bubble stars around my head but then I kinda felt like it had been done before so I thought, what about a mermaid from the future, a world where technology has really taken over and I thought it would be cool to do something natural in an unnatural setting. Well as natural as a mermaid can be, anyway. I don’t know if this is a totally original idea, I’m sure someone has thought about it before. I was heavily inspired by the Monster High doll Elle Eedee. She’s a robot and she’s going to be in the new Boo York Boo York movie and she’s definitely my favourite of the new dolls. I was even considering drawing on her little power button that sits between her eyebrows but I didn’t want to make a robot mermaid look so I stayed away from that.

215

So for the eyes, I went a little bit out of my comfort zone but still not very far. Honestly, I’d really like to do something really really wild but I get so nervous that I’ll just destroy what I’ve created so I don’t stray too far out of what I know that I’m capable of. I did a sort of halo eye look. I’m still not too certain about what qualifies as a halo eye but you’ll know when you see it. I just kept building shadows on top of each other, starting with the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, a few Inglot eyeshadows and Ice Queen from Makeup Geek.

20

I still added dots that are meant to represent stars in my dark purple eyeshadow. I wanted a little galaxy flavour haha. And a line of white liner that runs from my water line out to a wing for the ‘Milky Way’ haha. In the centre of my lid I used NYX roll on shimmer in Platinum to make my eyelids pop and sparkle. I also used it on my inner corner, there was so much glitter going on. In the future, glitter will always be on trend.

19

It doesn’t show up much in the photos but I do have some purple side burns because I tried to contour with purple and it basically looked like a line of zinc had been drawn on my face and I couldn’t blend it out for the life of me but it didn’t really hinder any photos so I suppose it wasn’t a total failure.

17

I think that in this world, humans know about the mermaids because it’s hard to hide anything with people recording everything that they see and documenting life with such ease. With the world forever changing and creatures forever adapting, merfolk can now switch between their fishy tail and a nice set of legs so that they can live in either environment. You wouldn’t be able to tell who’s a merperson either because everyone has gone all Capitol and everyone wears crazy makeup and dresses up because everyone is creative and likes to express themselves.

22

I hope that you enjoyed this post and hopefully with the next challenge, I can really push myself to be as creative as possible. I hope that you have a fantastic day!
