MOTD: Samhain

Hey guys!

Today is Samhain, the first day of the witches’ year! To celebrate, I’ve created a look inspired by the colours of the season, like I’ve done with previous seasons. As always, I’ll share a little bit about the holiday and share the products I’ve used! I hope that you enjoy!

December Favourites

Hi guys!

I debated whether or not to write this post because my next post is going to be my 2016 favourites but I didn’t want to just forget December as a month because there were some favourites that are specific to this month that wouldn’t necessarily make my 2016 favourites. I hope that you enjoy!

Spring/Summer Lipsticks!

This post is a follow up to the post I made about Fall/Winter Lipsticks. I thought this might be more appropriate for those in the Southern Hemisphere, like me, who are heading into Summer! The best part of these seasons is my birthday, end of uni year and of course the holidays like Halloween, Christmas and New Years. I  want to point out again that you don’t have to wear these colours in these season. You can wear whatever colour at whatever time. You make your own rules for makeup!

So, here is my large collection of Spring and Summer colours:

Yeah, I went a bit overboard with lipsticks for this. Trust me, I regretted it later when I had to go and swatch them all and now my hand is crying. All the regrets, all the time. I don’t own many ‘high end’ products, there are 5 here but I generally buy drugstore products. When I think of this time of year, I think of brights, corals and fuchsia. I don’t wear many pastels at all because my skin is so pale that is can often make me look like a little zombie and I’m not really a fan of that look. I don’t have a ‘worn photo’ for everything but I do have hand swatches for everything. I have so many selfies on my phone and its a miracle I even remember which lipstick out of my like 200+ that I am wearing that day.

Etude House Etoinette in POR202, Dear My Blooming Lips Talk in PK005, Minnie Mouse Pink.

Two of the three lipsticks are stamped and I think they’re really pretty!

IMG_6245 IMG_6246

I love Etude House and I think that they are affordable and worth checking out. They have a large range of different finishes and really, you could even just buy the lipstick for the packaging. Its just adorable. My favourite collection is the Etoinette collection and I can only find them on eBay now, I think that collection isn’t being stocked anymore, correct me if I’m wrong.

Lancôme Rouge in Love lipstick in 351B and gloss in 385:

The third swatch is the gloss and lipstick combined. I really like the way that they look together. I got both of these while I was travelling in France at the end of last year so they’re extra special. Let me just say though that I never would have bought this shade if I knew that this was going to be such a bright pink. In Duty Free it looked like an everyday pink, so that was a bit of a bummer but I like this shade now and I wear it quite frequently.

Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait and Super Lustrous Lipstick in Coralberry:

The Lip Butters were really over hyped when they first came out and I think that may be why a lot of people don’t give them much attention now because they definitely aren’t worth that amount of hype. However, I do think that they are still a great product. Peach Parfait has little flecks of gold in it so if you don’t like glitter then I wouldn’t recommend it but I think that this is such a perfect colour to wear with coral, gold and peachy makeup, like in the photo above. Coralberry is one of my favourite Revlon lipsticks. I’d been running around looking for it for months and none of the Priceline’s in my area had it but I eventually found it and I just love it. It is a peachy orange colour and I think it really suits Summer.

Rimmel Stay Glossy in 640 All Day Seduction, Apocalips in Stellar, Moisture Renew in Back to Fuchsia and In Love With Ginger:

I don’t use the Rimmel glosses enough, they’re really nice. I especially think that this gloss would compliment a lot of the lipsticks that I’m talking about in this post. I think most people know about the Apocalips or Show Offs, I don’t wear them very much because they’re a little bit too creamy for me BUT HAVE A LOOK AT THAT PIGMENTATION. It looks like I’ve swiped paint on to my hand! Stellar is a gorgeous orange red and I definitely plan on wearing this a heck of a lot in Spring and Summer. The new formula of the Moisture Renew line are more… creamy? They felt more like their regular line before they were revamped and I think I like them better the old way but the new colours in the new formula are perfection. In Love With Ginger has a hint of red in it so it isn’t such a stark orange colour, I think that it is pretty wearable.

Covergirl lipstick in Spellbound:

I LOVE this lipstick. I had only ever tried Covergirl foundation and mascara until the start of this year when I found out that this is a dupe for MAC’s Girl About Town. They are creamy but not too creamy and this one in particular has great pigmentation.

Rimmel Lasting Finish in Firecracker:

Firecracker is a really pretty coral red, I think that it is pretty unique and I’d recommend checking it out!

Milani Color Statement in Hot Pink Rage:

I have a deep love for the Milani Color Statement range. I have to buy them on Cherry Culture though so I do a lot of research before I buy them. I have all three matte shades and I think that they are fantastic. They smell great, they look great, and they make you feel great. Great, great, great.

MAC Speak Louder, Speed Dial and Crosswires:

Speak Louder

Speed Dial

I love these MAC lipsticks. Speak Louder is a colour I bought on a whim and I still am unsure if I regret it or not. I love the lipstick but I think I have lots like it. Speed Dial is really pretty! Speed Dial and Crosswires were also France purchases that were bought in the middle of France winter, ready for me to come back to Australian summer (bleh). All of these are cremesheens.

Maybelline Vivids in Hot Plum, Fuchsia Flash, Shocking Coral and Vivid Rose:

I love these lipsticks! They are the best of the Maybelline lip range in my opinion. They are highly pigmented and they stain your lips nicely so when the colour does wear off, you’re left with a pretty stain. We still don’t have the matte collection in Australia so I might have a different opinion on what is the best in the range when they arrive but from what they have in our stores, I definitely think that these are the best. And there are some more wearable shades in this collection, so if you are looking for something more toned down, you could probably find it.

Sportsgirl Pout About It lipsticks in Catwalk Queen and Mad About You:

Mad About You

Bright Pink Lipstick Day

I don’t hear much about these lipsticks and I think that might be because they are part of a clothing store brand some of their lipsticks are great! Check out those colours!

Bourjois Rouge Velvet in Pink Pong and Color Boost Balm in Orange Punch:

I love the Rouge Velvet creams (minus Grand Cru) but I don’t like the price, if you ever see these on sale for a decent price, snap them up! The Color Boost Balm is much like every other balm stick on the market, its cheaper than the Revlon ones but it is also less pigmented. I love the colour though.

Australis Velourlips in MI-A-MEE:

velour lips new 5

This is one of my absolute favourite lip products! I love the colour and I love love love the lasting power of these lipsticks! If you don’t want the heat to melt away your hard work, I’d recommend picking this up!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Antwerp:

The tube looks very orange in this photo and I apologise because I didn’t notice it until it was on my computer. The swatch is true to colour though. I was struggling to get the product out as I think this has started drying up on me but this is a great product and it smells amazing.

I hope that you found this post helpful! What lip colours and combinations do you want to be wearing this Spring/Summer?

Fall/Winter Lipsticks!

Australia may be coming into Summer right now, but I love Autumn (Fall) and I don’t think I made enough fuss about the beautiful colours that people where in these seasons. I love Autumn because it is not too cold and I love the fashion and the makeup that go along with this time of year. I do want to point out that you don’t have to wear these colours in Autumn and Winter exclusively. Makeup is for anyone and everyone and you make the rules, so if you want to wear dark lips all year, go for it! If you want to wear brights all year, there’s nothing stopping you.

Here are my favourite Autumn and Winter lip colours:

When I think of this time of year, I think of Plums and Burgundy for my lips. I’m still not SUPER confident wearing a really dark lip (think MAC’s Cyber or NYX Soft Matte in Transylvania) but these are the lipsticks I would recommend from my collection. I also have a few more products that I would have added in here but they were more or less the same colour as the others so I will just mention them as opposed to showing them. I also have a photo to go with most showing them on the lips.

L’Oreal Caresse in Milady:

This is probably my favourite colour in the L’Oreal Caresse line. Its a beautiful plum-purple, glossy shade.

MAC lipsticks: Captive, Plumful, Russian Red

Russian Red

These are some of my favourite MAC lipsticks. Plumful was my first ever MAC lipstick, so it is really special to me! Captive is a satin, reddened plum, Plumful is a lustre, sheer plum, and Russian Red is a matte, brick red.

Milani Color Statement in Sangria:

I love this lipstick to bits. This and the Rimmel lipstick that I will mention later are dupes for MAC’s Rebel except this one is Matte and I believe Rebel is a Satin. The Rimmel one is a cream so I suppose this would be a closer dupe.

NYX Round Lipstick in Snow White, Soft Matte Lip Cream in Prague and Monte Carlo:

Monte Carlo

NYX Round Lipstick in Snow White is really pretty but it is almost too creamy? It slides around and I often have it on my teeth as a result but it is really beautiful and if you can find a no-fuss way to wear it, let me know! The Soft Mattes are some of my favourite lip products and Prague is one that I am constantly drawn to!

Revlon Balms: Moisture Stain in Crush and Matte Balm in Standout

I didn’t get anywhere near enough wear out of Crush while Autumn and Winter were here in Australia! I hope that there are still a few gloomy days left so that I can whip it out before Summer hits Australia like a tonne of bricks. Standout is my favourite of the matte balms! I have both reds and I really want the purple, that is something I would have added to this list if I had it!

Rimmel Lasting Finish 120 Cutting Edge, 128 Starry-Eyed. Kate 29. Kate Velvet 107.

120 – Cutting Edge

107 is a staple for me, no matter what time of the year. Its one of my absolute favourite lipsticks, the Kate Velvet lipsticks are fantastic, I own 3 and wish I owned all of them because there is nothing bad that I can say about them. 120 Cutting Edge is the other Rebel Dupe that I own, but as I said earlier, its a cream finish. It looks awesome though.

The other colours that I wanted to mention were L’Oreal’s Matte lipstick in Bloody Mary, it looks a lot like Russian Red and Snow White, and Savvy’s Matte Lip Cream in the purple shade.

I hope that you found this post helpful! I plan on making one for Spring and Summer colours very soon, so look out for that if you’re looking for some options for Spring and Summer!

Review: Australis Velourlips + Lip swatches

I’ve been working my way through this brand since the start of this year and I am absolutely loving every minute of it. Recently, I have been testing out the Australis Velourlips, a matte lip cream.

Top to Bottom: TOK-I-O, PA-REE, NY-CEE.

These are very similar to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, Bourjois Lip Creams, Saavy’s Matte Creams and Lime Crime’s Velvetines. They are designed to be a highly pigmented lip colour that dries completely matte. All of the colours in this line are quite bold, except maybe the nude but even that colour stands out quite a bit! I’ve purchased TOK-I-O (purple), PA-REE (nude), and NY-CEE (red), and I love them all.

Each of them comes with a doe foot applicator for ease of application but you’ll want to be extremely cautious because these are very pigmented so you will want to avoid making a mistake at all costs haha. You may want to line your lips before if that helps you. They smell like Cherry flavoured Starburst lollies or Raspberry Schweppes, which I adore. The colours I own are very pigmented but I think that the nude may be a tiny bit less pigmented than the rest, but it is certainly still pigmented. These last absolutely AGES, I have wore all of these for an entire day and it took a lot of eating to take this off. I didn’t even need to reapply. These have a fantastic staying power and in my experience, once fully dry, they don’t transfer at all.

Worn: TOK-I-O

This is my most recent purchase and I bought it because I really love purple and I had loved the others I’d purchased. I didn’t think I was going to like this much on me because I didn’t think the Saavy lip cream in the purple shade suited me all that well and it was certainly a more wearable colour but I actually prefer this one because its a solid purple where the other is more pink purple.

Worn: PA-REE

This was my first Velourlips purchased. I bought it after watching Brittany Saunders talk about it on Youtube and it looked similar to MAC Modesty and NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu, two nudes that work on my skin tone. I like it a lot but I don’t wear it too much because I think some days it doesn’t suit me but I’m working on it haha.

Worn: NY-CEE

This is my favourite of the three I own. It is a perfect red on it me and because it stays on so long, I am so comfortable just wearing it on uni days and not thinking about if my lipstick is disappearing on me. I would recommend trying this one if you like reds or are looking to try and of these. This seems to be the safest option as far as the bold colours go.

I would definitely recommend this product. I only wish that they had more colours! They are only $9.95 at Priceline and they are currently on sale for $6 or $7, so I’d definitely go check them out if you haven’t. They are a little bit drying so just put a lip balm on five minutes before applying this lip product.

Hope you’re all having a good day.

RIP Robin Williams ❤

Review: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

This product has gotten a lot of attention on this blog in the few posts I’ve written and that’s because I literally cannot get over this product so I thought I’d give a solo review on them and explain why I love them so much!

L to R: Zurich, Cannes, Tokyo, Milan, Antwerp, Prague and Monte Carlo.

I bought the middle three (Tokyo, Milan and Antwerp) back in February when Target stores were just getting NYX. I thought these would have been the colours I might wear the most, plus, I had to buy Antwerp because its the name of a city in one of my favourite countries. Then I bought Monte Carlo when all Target stores were stocking NYX and I bought Zurich, Cannes and Prague a few weeks ago from Cherry Culture.

Neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip color that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing.” NYX Website.

When it is first applied, it feels a bit like you’re painting. It doesn’t feel like a lipstick when you’re applying it but it definitely looks like a lipstick in terms of colour pay off. It’s really pigmented with full color coverage in nearly one swipe. It applies really evenly, and it dries down to a satin-matte finish in about thirty seconds. After a few hours of wear, it is fully matte. Its extremely creamy without the shine of a cream finish. I wouldn’t say that it is a ‘moisturising’ formula. Certain colours have been a bit drying and I always apply a lip balm before I apply any of these. It would also be good to exfoliate your lips or make sure you don’t have any kind of dryness on your lips because the product will cling to it.

The Smell:

This has a sort of vanilla scent to it that a love. I think its a big part of why I love it. It just smells so yummy.

This product lasts a really long time on the lips. I am pretty much drinking constantly and this lasts a really long time for me. I know a lot of people have said 6 hours but I don’t go that long between meals unless its dinner to breakfast haha. You can easily reapply it and it doesn’t look cakey on the lips. After a while there can be this line in the inner part of your bottom lip of the product bunching up a bit. I’m not sure how to explain it but that can be a bit weird. But other than that it wears really well, doesn’t really transfer and some of the darker colours leave behind a little bit of a stain!

Lip Swatches:

It became evident in this review that I don’t take enough selfies -_-
I wear this product so often but I only seem to have a few photos of me actually wearing it! So here are the photos I found of me wearing two of the colours I own!

L to R: Monte Carlo and Prague.

I adore this product and would recommend it to anyone who likes matte or almost matte lip colour or even anyone who wants to try something new. I really love it and I think a heck of a lot of people would love it. And it must be good if so many people have written about it already 😉
