Journey to Cruelty Free #1

Hey guys!

So, since becoming vegetarian, I really wanted to think about the makeup and skincare that I was using. I know that being a vegetarian doesn’t eliminate all of the cruelty involved in my eating habits but in the effort to minimise the hurt that I’m creating, I wanted to try to start using majority cruelty free products. I’m not doing this to make myself better than anyone else. This is just a personal preference that I believe aligns with my personal beliefs.

I plan on making this a sort of series where I update you all on my progress and my planning. In this post, I am going to identify what brands in my collection are cruelty free and to what degree they are cruelty free (brand doesn’t test/sell in China, parent company doesn’t sell in China, vegan). A lot of brands don’t test but their parent company sells to countries (China) where it is law to test on animals, so you’re still more or less buying into cruelty. I hope that this is helpful, I am only including brands that I personally use so this isn’t everything that is cruelty free by any means. This is already going to be the longest post ever haha. I hope that you enjoy the post!

MOTD: Princess and the Frog 5th Anniversary!

Today, I am celebrating 5 years since the movie, The Princess and the Frog premiered! I love this movie so much and it makes me cry so I thought that I would celebrate it by doing some sort of makeup look inspired buy Tiana and the swampy parts of the movie.

I am hoping to do a Disney Makeup series where I do eye looks for characters but it will all depend on how it will fit into my post schedule because I have a lot planned!

Here is the look:

I tried out the *Benefit Bling Brows for this look, I wasn’t planning on doing it originally but I wanted to make this look a little bit more special because Tiana deserves the glamourous life that she has been working hard to achieve. I did originally take some photos before I added the Bling Brows because they pretty much remove all the makeup that you’ve applied underneath, when you take them off, so that if I didn’t like the way that they looked, I’d have a back up.
I used Inglot eyeshadows in a deep matte brown shade, moss green shade, white gold shade and a frosty white shade to achieve the eye look, with NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as a base. I wanted to choose colours that reminded me of Tiana’s Princess dress and the swamp that they go to, to see Mama Odie. The white is for Evangeline.
On my cheeks, I used Milani’s Baked Blush in Luminoso and highlighted with Essence’s Baked Eyeshadow in Icylicious. I just picked these colours because I think that Tiana would look super nice in this blush if she was real and I love it because it looks really healthy and glowy.
On my lips, I used SHE Aromatheraphy lipstick in Princess because I thought it was a great neutral colour to balance out the makeup and because I thought that the name suited.
Here are some photos in my bathroom:

And here are some in natural light with hair done:

There ain’t nothing gonna stop me now, ’cause I’m almost there~

I even bought one of those hair socks so that I could have the perfect princess bun but silly me forgot to take a photo of it!!

I really love this movie, my favourite character, if not Tiana or Dr Facilier, is Ray because of how much he loves Evangeline. The poor thing makes me cry every time.

*Benefit Bling Brows were sent to me to try, I am not sponsored by Benefit and my opinions are my own.

Priceline 40% Off Cosmetics Haul!

Last night, I saw on the Makeup Social app that a few girls were saying that Priceline were going to be having their 40% off cosmetics sale and they usually have it at around this time of the year so I was hoping that it wasn’t a joke or anything. But Priceline are sneaky little butts and even though people were asking for confirmation they were saying, ‘we can’t reveal anything about upcoming sales’. YEAH OKAY, PRICELINE.

I went shopping with Zoe and Caitlan, two beauty bloggers and two of my closest friends 🙂

Anyway! Here is what I picked up!

I know that a lot of people come in with an amount that they want to spend and a list of things they want when this sale comes around but this is probably the first time that I’ve actually been financially comfortable and I just bought things that I either needed or really wanted, without thinking ‘oh I want to make sure I spend under this amount’. I only bought one thing that is actually ‘expensive’ than came down to a normal price, but I’ll get to the price and the savings I made.

MODELS PREFER Day to Night Eyeshadow Palette:

My good buddy, Caitlan who runs the blog Procrasticaitlan, has written a review on all of these Models Prefer palettes and you can read her review here. I’m really glad that I got this palette. I’m always cautious to buy the not so well known brands in Priceline but Caitlan really enjoys these so I thought I’d give them a go! I love the brush that comes with this palette too!

RRP: $10/Sale Price: $6

Revlon Photoready Primer:

This has been my favourite primer for a really long time but it is way too expensive to buy regularly, so I just had to buy it during this sale. I was debating whether I should buy this one that I love or the L’Oreal Instant Blur but the Instant Blur wasn’t on sale so I thought I may as well get my favourite for a good price. I’ve also never tried this with my current makeup routine so this should be interesting.

RRP: $29.95/Sale Price: $17.97

L’Oreal Glam Matte Gloss in Zip it Rouge:

IMG_7059 IMG_7061
This product is relatively new in Priceline, I know I’ve never seen it before today but my friends and I all said, ‘a matte gloss?’ talk about an oxymoron. I just had to swatch it to see how it applied. It seems to be like the Rimmel Apocalips glosses but it dries down to a matte but not like the Australis Velourlips or the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. I love the colour and I could see myself getting a few more of these in the future when they are on sale again.

RRP: $21.95/Sale Price: $13.17

Maybelline Color Whisper in Lust For Blush:

IMG_7063 IMG_7065

This colour is really hyped up in the beauty community and as I’ve been looking for some more neutral lip colours, I thought I’d grab this because I love the one that I have and I like this colour a lot.

RRP: $14.95/Sale Price: $8.97

Face of Australia Blushes:

L to R: Primrose and O Peachy!
I really like the brand Face of Australia and they are finally getting some good hype online, so I thought I’d pick up two of their blushes because I’ve been on a bit of a blush hype lately! O Peachy looks just like NARS Orgasm! If you really want Orgasm but you’re not sure that you want to spend all of that money on that blush, maybe pick this up! I’m considering doing a full review of the Face of Australia blushes.

RRP: $9.45/Sale Price: $5.67

Maybelline Hyperglossy Liner:

This is my every day liner. I love it and I can’t see myself wanting to get any other liner unless this becomes discontinued (touch wood).

RRP: $9.95/Sale Price: $5.97

O.P.I. Nail Laquer in Pamplona Purple and Sally Hanson Salon Manicure in Water Color:

Its really exciting that O.P.I. is in Priceline. There isn’t a big display or anything at any of the Priceline stores that I’ve been to but there is a bucket near the front or around with a few O.P.I nail laquers. I bought one of these new Sally Hansen Nail Polish’s recently, I bought the shade Barracuda, pretty much just for the name but the colour is beautiful. I wanted to get a similar colour so that I could start doing more nail art.

O.P.I. Priceline Price: $10/Sale Price: $6
Sally Hansen RRP: $9.95/Sale Price: $5.97

Savvy Classic Blush in Petal:

I love the Savvy blushes. I’d love to do a full review of these in the future because I think that they are really worthwhile and they’re only $5! They’re very pigmented and they’re great quality! Definitely check out this product. I have most of the colours now haha

RRP: $4.99/Sale Price: $2.99

SHE Aromatherapy Lipstick in Afina:

IMG_7076 IMG_7077

I recently purchased another one of these lipsticks and I am enjoying them quite a bit. The only thing that I don’t really like is the scent. It kind of smells like rose tea.

RRP: $14.95/Sale Price: $8.97

Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil in Soft Brown:

I lost my last brow pencil and I’ve enjoyed this pencil before so I thought I’d pick it up again because I’m pickin up my brow game for cheap. I like these because they aren’t too red toned.

RRP: $11.50/Sale Price: $6.90

I’m really happy with everything that I purchased today and I’m hoping to get a couple of reviews up featuring some of the products featured in this post! In the end, I was able to save $62.84, which is huge! If you’re thinking of buying things during this sale or you’ve already bought, let me know what you’re planning on buying or what you’ve bought already!

BellaBox July 2014: What did I receive?

I’ve been getting the subscription box, BellaBox, for the past 3 months and I thought I might start sharing what I’ve received in my box because it is different for everyone and I love seeing what other people received! I’ll talk about what I thought of the box at the end of this post.

This is a very bad photo of what came inside my box with information about each product. This is really helpful when I don’t get a full sized product because the sample sizes usually don’t have any instructions on how to use the product. However almost all of my products were full sized!

And here are the products that came in my box this month:

The theme was American Beauty and there seemed to be a few cool things you could get in this box that I was eager to try. I really wanted to try the Balm cream blush palette and the waterproof top coat mascara from Anastasia Beverly Hills, which I received!

This is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Waterproof Top Coat – Deluxe Sample:

image (4)image (5)

image (6)

This was one of the three American cult brand items that were guaranteed to be in the box. There was also one Nicole by O.P.I. nail polish in varying shades and the Balm cream blush. Some people were lucky enough to receive two of those!

Value: $23.55 (RRP is $39.00 for 5.3g)

This is the Innoxa Mineral Eyeshadow Trio in Nude – Full Sized:

image (2)image (1)

This product is not even worth sharing the swatch for. This had almost no pigmentation. I looked up the Innoxa training guide (here) to see the best way to apply it but it just said use a brush and you really wouldn’t pick up enough to bother using it so if you ever wondered about this product, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Value: RRP $14.95

These are the Designer Brands Paw Paw Lip treatment and Ointment – Full Sized:

image (7)

I kinda wish I got to skip the ointment because I own the Lucas’ Papaw Ointment already and I’ll probably use that over this Designer Brands one because most people swear by that one and not many people seem to talk about this or anything worth mentioning from that brand at all. But I will give it a go. The lip treatment should be interesting. I plan on using it at night before I go to sleep!

Value – Both RRP $4.99

This is the SHE Aromatherapy Fruit Shine Gloss in Raspberry – Full Sized:

image (8) image (9)

I really am not a fan of glosses in these kinds of tubes because you have pretty much no control of the gloss and if you’ve accidentally pushed too much out you can’t get it back in the tube. It is a really pretty colour and swatched nicely on my hand but I don’t know how much use I’d get out of this at all. I suppose that’s the gamble with these subscription boxes. This item isn’t even listed as one of the possible items you can receive on the bellabox July box page or on the SHE Aromatherapy website, in this shade.

Value: RRP $12.95

And this is the Natralus Pure 100% Aloe Vera Gel, it was a bonus gift in my box:

image (10)

Value: $0.15 (RRP $14.95 for 200ml)

This is supposed to be used over sunburnt skin which is a weird gift to give when Australia is right in the middle of winter but I’m sure it’ll come in handy in the summer time.

Total Value: $61.58 (or RRP $91.83)

If this was my first Bella Box I would probably stop my subscription because I hardly got anything I’d use. There was a serious amount of hype for this box from BellaBox so it is really disappointing to have received what I received. In previous boxes I’d be happy to use more than half, if not all items in the box. But this box has nothing special at all. The theme was American Beauty, based on the Fourth of July Holiday and a lot of people assumed that that would celebrate American Beauty Products. Or at least more so than just the one guaranteed item. Only one out of the six things I received were from an American company, which I think is pretty poor for an American themed box. The items could have even been in the American flag colours, I know I’d love a navy eyeliner. I think most people are upset by this box because we all had to wait so long to receive it and then it didn’t turn out to be anything special anyway. I am glad I received the Anastasia Beverly Hills item and I think if it wasn’t for that I would have been really really disappointed with this box.
