Journey to Cruelty Free #1

Hey guys!

So, since becoming vegetarian, I really wanted to think about the makeup and skincare that I was using. I know that being a vegetarian doesn’t eliminate all of the cruelty involved in my eating habits but in the effort to minimise the hurt that I’m creating, I wanted to try to start using majority cruelty free products. I’m not doing this to make myself better than anyone else. This is just a personal preference that I believe aligns with my personal beliefs.

I plan on making this a sort of series where I update you all on my progress and my planning. In this post, I am going to identify what brands in my collection are cruelty free and to what degree they are cruelty free (brand doesn’t test/sell in China, parent company doesn’t sell in China, vegan). A lot of brands don’t test but their parent company sells to countries (China) where it is law to test on animals, so you’re still more or less buying into cruelty. I hope that this is helpful, I am only including brands that I personally use so this isn’t everything that is cruelty free by any means. This is already going to be the longest post ever haha. I hope that you enjoy the post!

Priceline 40% Off Cosmetics Haul!

Last night, I saw on the Makeup Social app that a few girls were saying that Priceline were going to be having their 40% off cosmetics sale and they usually have it at around this time of the year so I was hoping that it wasn’t a joke or anything. But Priceline are sneaky little butts and even though people were asking for confirmation they were saying, ‘we can’t reveal anything about upcoming sales’. YEAH OKAY, PRICELINE.

I went shopping with Zoe and Caitlan, two beauty bloggers and two of my closest friends 🙂

Anyway! Here is what I picked up!

I know that a lot of people come in with an amount that they want to spend and a list of things they want when this sale comes around but this is probably the first time that I’ve actually been financially comfortable and I just bought things that I either needed or really wanted, without thinking ‘oh I want to make sure I spend under this amount’. I only bought one thing that is actually ‘expensive’ than came down to a normal price, but I’ll get to the price and the savings I made.

MODELS PREFER Day to Night Eyeshadow Palette:

My good buddy, Caitlan who runs the blog Procrasticaitlan, has written a review on all of these Models Prefer palettes and you can read her review here. I’m really glad that I got this palette. I’m always cautious to buy the not so well known brands in Priceline but Caitlan really enjoys these so I thought I’d give them a go! I love the brush that comes with this palette too!

RRP: $10/Sale Price: $6

Revlon Photoready Primer:

This has been my favourite primer for a really long time but it is way too expensive to buy regularly, so I just had to buy it during this sale. I was debating whether I should buy this one that I love or the L’Oreal Instant Blur but the Instant Blur wasn’t on sale so I thought I may as well get my favourite for a good price. I’ve also never tried this with my current makeup routine so this should be interesting.

RRP: $29.95/Sale Price: $17.97

L’Oreal Glam Matte Gloss in Zip it Rouge:

IMG_7059 IMG_7061
This product is relatively new in Priceline, I know I’ve never seen it before today but my friends and I all said, ‘a matte gloss?’ talk about an oxymoron. I just had to swatch it to see how it applied. It seems to be like the Rimmel Apocalips glosses but it dries down to a matte but not like the Australis Velourlips or the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. I love the colour and I could see myself getting a few more of these in the future when they are on sale again.

RRP: $21.95/Sale Price: $13.17

Maybelline Color Whisper in Lust For Blush:

IMG_7063 IMG_7065

This colour is really hyped up in the beauty community and as I’ve been looking for some more neutral lip colours, I thought I’d grab this because I love the one that I have and I like this colour a lot.

RRP: $14.95/Sale Price: $8.97

Face of Australia Blushes:

L to R: Primrose and O Peachy!
I really like the brand Face of Australia and they are finally getting some good hype online, so I thought I’d pick up two of their blushes because I’ve been on a bit of a blush hype lately! O Peachy looks just like NARS Orgasm! If you really want Orgasm but you’re not sure that you want to spend all of that money on that blush, maybe pick this up! I’m considering doing a full review of the Face of Australia blushes.

RRP: $9.45/Sale Price: $5.67

Maybelline Hyperglossy Liner:

This is my every day liner. I love it and I can’t see myself wanting to get any other liner unless this becomes discontinued (touch wood).

RRP: $9.95/Sale Price: $5.97

O.P.I. Nail Laquer in Pamplona Purple and Sally Hanson Salon Manicure in Water Color:

Its really exciting that O.P.I. is in Priceline. There isn’t a big display or anything at any of the Priceline stores that I’ve been to but there is a bucket near the front or around with a few O.P.I nail laquers. I bought one of these new Sally Hansen Nail Polish’s recently, I bought the shade Barracuda, pretty much just for the name but the colour is beautiful. I wanted to get a similar colour so that I could start doing more nail art.

O.P.I. Priceline Price: $10/Sale Price: $6
Sally Hansen RRP: $9.95/Sale Price: $5.97

Savvy Classic Blush in Petal:

I love the Savvy blushes. I’d love to do a full review of these in the future because I think that they are really worthwhile and they’re only $5! They’re very pigmented and they’re great quality! Definitely check out this product. I have most of the colours now haha

RRP: $4.99/Sale Price: $2.99

SHE Aromatherapy Lipstick in Afina:

IMG_7076 IMG_7077

I recently purchased another one of these lipsticks and I am enjoying them quite a bit. The only thing that I don’t really like is the scent. It kind of smells like rose tea.

RRP: $14.95/Sale Price: $8.97

Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil in Soft Brown:

I lost my last brow pencil and I’ve enjoyed this pencil before so I thought I’d pick it up again because I’m pickin up my brow game for cheap. I like these because they aren’t too red toned.

RRP: $11.50/Sale Price: $6.90

I’m really happy with everything that I purchased today and I’m hoping to get a couple of reviews up featuring some of the products featured in this post! In the end, I was able to save $62.84, which is huge! If you’re thinking of buying things during this sale or you’ve already bought, let me know what you’re planning on buying or what you’ve bought already!

Mini Lipstick Graveyard~

As you may have seen on my previous posts about my lipstick collection, I’ve accumulated a lot of lip products over the last 2 years and I thought it might be a good idea to start getting rid of some that I either don’t use or just don’t really need.
I counted 191 lipsticks and believe it or not, I have a few coming in the mail soon.

Here is a picture of part of my makeup table:

There are lip products in the containers to the left, eye shadows and such in the top right corner, circle lenses and coloured contacts below that and then my little nail polish collection.

And this is what I took away from my lip products:

L to R Top: Mio Piccolo shade 03, Rimmel Drop of Sherry and Pink Blush, Nivea Gloss Balm, Christian Dior Gloss gift set, Elf Fantasy, Essense XXXL gloss.

L to R Middle: Inglot Lipsticks, Maybelline Pink Beam and Luminous Lilac, Essence Wear Berries!, Esis Rose Nude, Inglot Lip Duo in 24.

L to R Bottom: Essences Beauty Beats gloss, Models Prefer Balm Stain.

Not a lot left but it definitely feels better to have removed some, I have a bit of a hording issue with lipsticks so this is progress. I’m sure I’ll do another one of these posts in the future.

Now I’ll explain why I’m not keeping these and where they’ll be going:

I have two Rimmel lipsticks, Drop of Sherry and Pink Blush that are leaving my collection. I love Rimmel and I love their lipsticks but I don’t think that these two suit me all that well. Drop of Sherry has quite a frosty finish and I think its more of an older shade for me. And Pink Blush is also quite frosty but the real issue is that its too blue toned for my skin, which is weird because I suit those kinds of colours pretty well. My Mum has claimed these, she likes to try products and I think she would use them more than I would.

There are two Inglot lipsticks, I don’t remember the numbers and that is a little bit why I am not keeping them. I don’t like that the colours are just labelled by number and the number has little to no indication of what the colour could be. Their system needs to be changed because its really inconvenient. I bought these when I was first really getting into makeup and I didn’t really know what I liked, these where half price and I’d never bought anything more high end before so these at the time where quite exciting but they’re both extremely frosty, so is the one I am keeping but the one I’m keeping is less obnoxious and I think I could find a way to make it work. I just hate the way these two make me look. One is a medium pink and one is a lilac shade. The lilac is so shimmery that it looks white in some photos. I have similar colours in my collection that have a nicer finish so I thought I’d let these two go. The pink is going to my Mum and the lilac is in a bag waiting to be assessed by one of my friends.

The nivea gloss I bought while I was in France and I don’t really know what possessed me to buy it but I did. I’ve used it once and I don’t really like it. It is just a little squeezy tube and I just don’t reach for it at all. My Mum will be trying this.

The five little Dior lipglosses look like they would be awesome but their just so bad. I got them really cheap in a gift set and they are pretty much all the same colour and finish. I’ve used them once or twice and I just never reach for them. They’re just taking up space so they’ll probably be thrown away because I don’t think they’re really good enough for anyone.

The Elf Lipstick was something I accidentally purchased. On the Australian website if something is out of stock, it just flicks to the first lipstick in stock and I didn’t see that it hadn’t gotten the colour I was after. I don’t know if that is the same for the American site or not but it is really annoying and i think they should just highlight what is in stock and mute the word of the shades not in stock. The way they’ve set it up is quite annoying. Its more expensive to purchase in Australia than in America but I don’t mind that this was a bit of a waste. This is probably just going to the bin. I don’t imagine anyone I know would want this.

The two maybelline lipsticks were ebay purchases and I think I just bought them because they were cheap. They’ll probably be chucked out.

The Essence lipstick, beauty beats gloss and XXXL gloss are just three products I don’t ever use even though they’re nice. I just can’t imagine picking them up when I have so many others. There’s nothing greatly wrong with any of them.

The Models Prefer Balm is okay, I got it in one of the Priceline gift bags. I have a lot of the Revlon Balm Stains and I like them better than most of the other ones you can get so I just don’t see myself using it.
