January Favourites

Hey guys!

One month of 2017 down and that means that there’s only 10.5 months until Christmas! Some of my resolutions this year included being more social and really trying to enjoy life more and stop thinking about negativity and I do think that for the most part, I’ve been really achieving those goals! This month I started a new line of personal study that I’m really excited about, and I’m sure it’ll trickle into this blog at certain times. Anyway, today I want to share my favourites for the month of January. I hope that you enjoy!

Review: Essence Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Collection

Hey guys!

If you’ve followed me for a little while, you’ll know I like to purchase items from most Essence collections and try them out. Essence is a bit of a hit or miss brand (mostly hit) and because they’re so cheap, I don’t mind running the risk of purchasing a dud. The most recent collection to appear at Target (and maybe Priceline?) is the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Collection, which contains bright lipstick shades, an eye palette, a highlighter, and a few other items. I picked up the highlight and the little eye quad! I hope that you enjoy this post!

Full Face Using Only Highlighters Challenge!

Hey guys!

I’m sure that you’ve seen this challenge everywhere because it’s really been done to death BUT it is also super fun and if you want to give it a go, don’t let over production stop you! This challenge started after Mariya on posted a video using only highlighters and it became a meme on Instagram! Since then, YouTubers and bloggers have been attempting to recreate it with their own highlighters! It’s super fun and it was a great way for me to use some highlighters that I haven’t used in a little bit! I hope that you enjoy!

Review: TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer

Hey guys!

Today, I thought that I’d talk a bit about my new love for this product. I only purchased it on Monday but I’ve been using it non-stop since and I honestly want to put it all over my body because I’m so obsessed with it hahaha. I know that I’m late on this hype train and I’m a little annoyed with myself for not purchasing it earlier but anyway, here’s the review!

I have quite a few highlighters now but most of them are cream or liquid highlighters and my preferred type is powder. Being combination/oily skin, powders really are my friend especially seeing as where I do get dry is not my cheek bones.

This champagne highlight is literally #goals. It is so glowy. When I look for a highlight, I look for something that has no chunky glitter in it. I think the chunky glitter highlighters just emphasise pores and just make you look like a bit of a glitter bomb. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m a super glitter fan but not on the daily. This highlight gives so much light and life to the face. I feel like I’m glowing so much that I could be pregnant (don’t worry, mum. I’m not pregnant).

The texture of the product is really smooth and buttery. You don’t need to really rub your finger or brush in the product to get a lot of pigment because it is already there. It is much more pigmented than the highlight I regularly use so I kinda need to learn to tone it down a bit but I am loving the glow that I get from this. I feel like the Lord can see my highlight up in heaven and Lorde can see it all the way over in New Zealand, its that pigmented.

You can kinda see the glow here. I’ve been trying the Kim Thai highlighting technique and I’ve been noticing my face looks a lot more highlighted and gorgeous. I definitely recommend watching how she does it if you want your highlight to be ‘on fleek’. You can also use it as an inner corner highlight, brow highlight, cupid’s bow highlight, etc. EVERYWHERE HIGHLIGHT. YOU GLOW GURL.

I hope that you guys are all having a really lovely day!

New Trend Alert! Strobing?

I’m sure you’ve heard a lot about contouring. Probably too much for you to handle, am I right? And we all know about highlighting to the high heavens. Well there’s a new trend forming called strobing and it takes little effort, you pretty much can’t make a mistake and it makes you look naturally glowy with minimal effort.

Strobing is when you only highlight certain areas and give yourself a natural, healthy-looking glow. It is basically all about bringing in the light, no shadows in sight.

For strobing, I think that it looks best when you do it with a cream highlight. I use the Essence Soo Glow! cream to powder highlight because I find that it gives me the most natural highlight. You can also use eyeshadows like Makeup Geek’s Shimma Shimma or Too Faced’s Champagne Truffle, or powder highlighters.
Here is a picture that I badly did in MS Paint to show where to put the highlight for strobing.
