Sarah Takes WA: Day 6 and 7

So, this last post is a bit late but I’ve been busy trying to unpack things and all of that nonsense. But I’m here now to post about my last days of adventuring in Western Australia.

The first thing that we did was see Into the Woods, at the earliest time available, as to have the whole day to see anything we might have missed in Fremantle.

I loved the movie, I thought it was a fantastic adaption of the musical. It brought me back to the time when I’d watched it for Drama class.

After the movie, we had lunch at Bread in Common.

My lunch was honey yogurt, granola, blood orange and other things that I’d forgotten soon after reading the menu.

It was a bit of an overkill of sweet but it was still really nice and I think that it’d be a really nice breakfast!

After that we visited the Round House and the look out onto the beach. It was a perfect day for it.

After the Round House, we went to the Fremantle Prison. I think that this was probably the thing that we were most excited to visit.

A lot of the prison was made out of parts of ships and the interior of the prison does look very ship like. It is a very beautiful building, despite what it was used for.

Here is the canteen menu, if you click on the picture, you can see the menu better but it is still very hard to read haha.

In this section, part of the ceiling was replaced and you can see what was replaced by looking at the colour of the wood!

There was a lot of art around the prison. Prisoners had to buy the paint with the money that they earned working. It was really beautiful walking around and seeing the creations on the wall.

After the prison, we bought groceries for our last dinner in Western Australia.

We decided to make hotdogs! They were inspired by a tv show that featured special hotdogs. We made Mac n Cheese, Chilli, and Peach Salsa!

On the last day we spent the day cleaning up and making sure that we were all packed and ready to head back home. We had a lot of trouble at the airport, we were shuffled about and trampled on by crazy people who were on our flight but we are safe and sound back home. I’m happy to be back and I’ll get back to my regular posts now. I’ve got lots to write about and I can’t wait to share it with you. I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing what I’ve been up to this last week!

As always, I hope that you are all enjoying your day!

Sarah Takes WA: Day 1 & 2

As some of you might know, on Wednesday, I travelled to WA with two of my friends. Because we are staying for a week and we are trying to fit a lot of things into our days, I thought that it might be fun to document them on my blog 🙂

On the first day, we got confused the Transperth bus system and ended up paying double to get to our accommodation. The place we are staying is nice and it is really close to Fremantle city. We just settled in on the first day but we did a lot of planning for the following day!

On the second day, we visited the Fremantle Maritime Museum and HMAS Ovens Submarine.

This was what I wore:

We walked from our accommodation to the Maritime Museum, to save money and because we all need exercise but this proved to be part of our downfall as Patrick and I were getting sunburnt and we made an emergency stop to get sun block.

I wish I’d taken a picture of the outside of the Maritime Museum because it was huge! It makes the Adelaide Maritime Museum look like a small room compared to this.

We found Bruce Jenner in this museum! ^

Frankie was very disappointed when he saw one of the stickers on this car.

And this shell carving was beautiful!

And on this trip, I am taking one of my Sylvanian Families toys with me.
This is her in front of the Megamouth Shark:

and with Frankie:

There was an exhibition on at the Maritime Museum called The Last Gentleman of War and it was about a battle between two submarines, one from Sydney and one from Germany.

These pictures are from the exhibit, The journal is in German so if anyone knows what it says, let me know!

Next, we went on a tour of HMAS Ovens, a submarine that Frankie kept saying they named after the large amount of ovens on board but we soon found out it was named after a man, which was unsurprising.

We entered the submarine via one of the hatches on the top, where torpedoes were sent down. we had to go down the ladder at the most uncomfortable angle and I’m sure that everyone saw up my dress. I was so embarrassed and I wish I’d worn shorts!

Above you can see the torpedo hatches and the tour guide, John and my tour buddy – he had a vast knowledge of submarines prior to going on this tour! The tour was an hour long and it was very informative.

I’d definitely recommend seeing this if you’re ever in Fremantle, but just remember to wear pants!

Next stop, The Raw Kitchen!

This restaurant was in an out warehouse and it was so cool and everyone was nice. We went here because it said on Urban Spoon that it was $ – relatively cheap, -$20. But we soon found out it was a bit more expensive but the menu looked great so we ate here anyway!

I’m not sure of the name of what I ordered, I originally ordered the Winter Warmer Pizza but they weren’t selling it anymore but they did have a new pizza so I got that instead! I was delicious and sooo filling! I also got one of their smoothies, I ordered the Blue Moon, which had blueberries, lavender and banana, among other things. The straws were metal and both Frankie and I hurt our teeth on it.

As you can see, I was pretty sunburnt at this point in the day. At this restaurant, they sold Bite Beauty and Hurraw! lip balms, I bought the Hyper Pigment Pencil in Bramble and the lip balm in Chai Spice.

Next stop was the Shipwreck Gallery, which featured mostly Dutch Shipwrecks and Dutch exploration of Australia. It was much smaller than the Maritime Museum but it was definitely cool, they had many beautiful model ships.

Patrick and I bought sea related toys from the gift shop at the Maritime Museum and this was Patrick’s in the cannon.

And this is a pretty hill just outside of the city!

I hope that you are all enjoying your day!
