Journey to Cruelty Free #1

Hey guys!

So, since becoming vegetarian, I really wanted to think about the makeup and skincare that I was using. I know that being a vegetarian doesn’t eliminate all of the cruelty involved in my eating habits but in the effort to minimise the hurt that I’m creating, I wanted to try to start using majority cruelty free products. I’m not doing this to make myself better than anyone else. This is just a personal preference that I believe aligns with my personal beliefs.

I plan on making this a sort of series where I update you all on my progress and my planning. In this post, I am going to identify what brands in my collection are cruelty free and to what degree they are cruelty free (brand doesn’t test/sell in China, parent company doesn’t sell in China, vegan). A lot of brands don’t test but their parent company sells to countries (China) where it is law to test on animals, so you’re still more or less buying into cruelty. I hope that this is helpful, I am only including brands that I personally use so this isn’t everything that is cruelty free by any means. This is already going to be the longest post ever haha. I hope that you enjoy the post!

Liptember Week 4!

Hey Guys!

Welcome to the last Liptember post! I can’t believe how quickly the month has whizzed by and how I have worn 30 different lip colours without a day off. I think a little pat on the back is deserved here haha. My little makeup heart is aching to wear nudes again and after today, I will be glad to go back to not having any makeup restrictions. As always, if you aren’t sure what Liptember is all about, you can learn more about Liptember here and you can donate here!

Day 22 – Australis Velourlips – MUM-BAI

Day 23 – NYX Butter Lipstick – Hunk

Day 24 – Shanghai Suzy – Miss Ally AMETHYST (Purchase Here)

Day 25 – Maybelline Vivid – Fuchsia Flash

Day 26 – L’Oreal – Cocorico

Day 27 – Runway Room – The Governor

Day 28 – Shanghai Suzy – Miss Victorine (Purchase Here)

Day 29 – NARS – Schiap

Day 30 – Bite Beauty – Bramble

Overall, I think that Liptember went pretty well. I think that I was able to talk to quite a few people about mental health, more than usual and I think that by doing something for so long, it shows people that it is important and it is worth paying attention to. I would have loved to have had more opportunities to wear more blue lipsticks and greens, but with my 2 year anniversary, numerous university oral presentations and the Hair and Makeup Trade Show, I didn’t feel like all situations allowed for those kind of colours. I also bought a tonne of nude or neutral lipsticks during September, which made it really hard for me to continue the challenge because I kept wanting to wear my new colours. Ultimately, wearing bright lipstick might not help bring awareness to mental health, but being involved in a challenge and actively talking about it has helped make it as successful as it has been. I was able to raise almost $150 and there is still time to donate to me on my challenge now that it has been completed.

I hope that you’ve all enjoyed my Liptember posts. I would really like to do it again next year and I’m sure I could do it better next year with more lip colours and better planning haha. If you would still like to donate to my challenge, you can do so here.

Sarah Takes WA: Day 1 & 2

As some of you might know, on Wednesday, I travelled to WA with two of my friends. Because we are staying for a week and we are trying to fit a lot of things into our days, I thought that it might be fun to document them on my blog 🙂

On the first day, we got confused the Transperth bus system and ended up paying double to get to our accommodation. The place we are staying is nice and it is really close to Fremantle city. We just settled in on the first day but we did a lot of planning for the following day!

On the second day, we visited the Fremantle Maritime Museum and HMAS Ovens Submarine.

This was what I wore:

We walked from our accommodation to the Maritime Museum, to save money and because we all need exercise but this proved to be part of our downfall as Patrick and I were getting sunburnt and we made an emergency stop to get sun block.

I wish I’d taken a picture of the outside of the Maritime Museum because it was huge! It makes the Adelaide Maritime Museum look like a small room compared to this.

We found Bruce Jenner in this museum! ^

Frankie was very disappointed when he saw one of the stickers on this car.

And this shell carving was beautiful!

And on this trip, I am taking one of my Sylvanian Families toys with me.
This is her in front of the Megamouth Shark:

and with Frankie:

There was an exhibition on at the Maritime Museum called The Last Gentleman of War and it was about a battle between two submarines, one from Sydney and one from Germany.

These pictures are from the exhibit, The journal is in German so if anyone knows what it says, let me know!

Next, we went on a tour of HMAS Ovens, a submarine that Frankie kept saying they named after the large amount of ovens on board but we soon found out it was named after a man, which was unsurprising.

We entered the submarine via one of the hatches on the top, where torpedoes were sent down. we had to go down the ladder at the most uncomfortable angle and I’m sure that everyone saw up my dress. I was so embarrassed and I wish I’d worn shorts!

Above you can see the torpedo hatches and the tour guide, John and my tour buddy – he had a vast knowledge of submarines prior to going on this tour! The tour was an hour long and it was very informative.

I’d definitely recommend seeing this if you’re ever in Fremantle, but just remember to wear pants!

Next stop, The Raw Kitchen!

This restaurant was in an out warehouse and it was so cool and everyone was nice. We went here because it said on Urban Spoon that it was $ – relatively cheap, -$20. But we soon found out it was a bit more expensive but the menu looked great so we ate here anyway!

I’m not sure of the name of what I ordered, I originally ordered the Winter Warmer Pizza but they weren’t selling it anymore but they did have a new pizza so I got that instead! I was delicious and sooo filling! I also got one of their smoothies, I ordered the Blue Moon, which had blueberries, lavender and banana, among other things. The straws were metal and both Frankie and I hurt our teeth on it.

As you can see, I was pretty sunburnt at this point in the day. At this restaurant, they sold Bite Beauty and Hurraw! lip balms, I bought the Hyper Pigment Pencil in Bramble and the lip balm in Chai Spice.

Next stop was the Shipwreck Gallery, which featured mostly Dutch Shipwrecks and Dutch exploration of Australia. It was much smaller than the Maritime Museum but it was definitely cool, they had many beautiful model ships.

Patrick and I bought sea related toys from the gift shop at the Maritime Museum and this was Patrick’s in the cannon.

And this is a pretty hill just outside of the city!

I hope that you are all enjoying your day!
