Disney Week: Mike Wazowski Nails

Today is the last day of Disney Week! I’m really sad because this has been such a fun challenge for me. It was a bit harder because this fell right into my exam time but that’s okay. I think I managed alright. Today is also the anniversary of the premiere of Monsters University!

I loved this movie when it came out, this movie and Toy Story 3 were great ways to celebrate two movies that we grew up with and I think that there were more adults than there were kids in the cinema when I went to go see it. For the last day of Disney week, I decided to do nail art inspired by Mike Wazowski. It definitely wasn’t my best nail art ever but I thought that I’d share it anyway because it was still really fun to do.

I did them pretty late at night and the thumb nail got a bit squished so that’s another reason I was a bit unhappy about how they turned out but yeah.

So I used a base coat and then applied Kelp Yourself from Sally Hanson. I love this shade and it was the closest shade that I had to Mike’s skin colour. Then I used a dotting tool to add the big white dot for Mike’s eyeball. I used White On by Sally Hansen for this step. Next I needed a darker green for his iris, so I used Wicked Witch of the West by Face of Australia on a smaller dotting tool. Then I needed a black for his pupil, so I used Midnight in NY by Sally Hansen. I wanted to make Mike’s eye really look like an eye, so I added a little highlight with the white polish and I think that it made it look much better. Then because Mike isn’t fully round, I wanted to make it look like he had horns on his head so I used Cafe Au Lait by Sally Hansen, to make it look like my natural nail colour again.

It’s not perfect but I had fun trying to make this work haha. Next time, I’d like to try doing this with just one Mike nail and the rest are just green nails!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this series and I hope that you’re having a wonderful day!

Disney Week: Esmeralda Disneybound

Tomorrow is the anniversary of The Hunchback of Notre Dame!! This movie has such a special place in my heart, I love it so much. I love Quasimodo’s voice actor (even if my boyfriend says the voice doesn’t suit) and I love Esmeralda because she’s such an awesome character. However, my favourite part of the movie is Heaven’s Light/Hellfire. This song is the best Disney song that there is in the history of ever. Throw away your Be Prepareds, put away your Poor Unfortunate Souls and pick up Hellfire. But not literally, you don’t wanna be doin that. Hellfire is the most disgustingly well written villain song and I just love it. I could listen to it every day. But enough of that, here is my Esmeralda Disneybound!

11541281_10153195807267530_1024502190_n
I was planning some really elaborate Disneybound that probably more closely resembled her actual costume but then I did a little bit of research and realised I owned clothes that were in her colour scheme! The only things that I actually had to purchase was the scarf to use as a headband and a pair of earrings. I bought this scarf at Kmart for $3. I found some hoop earrings with coins hanging from them and they reminded me of the coins on her skirt so I thought that they were perfect. I bought them from Kmart for $3.50 on sale from $14!

I didn’t realise how well I hid my moon of a face in my selfies but in these photos I realised how big my face is haha. Esmeralda has quite an oval shaped face. She is just gorgeous. Shout out to my Mum though for taking photos for me. She was back in the country by the time I did this outfit, too bad she wasn’t here when I took photos for Jane!
11356317_10153195807417530_1568947439_n I hope that you’re having a fantastic day! One more day of Disney week to go!!

Disney Week: Matchmaker Fa Mulan

Today is the anniversary of the premiere of Mulan! I never loved Mulan like I probably should have and that is purely based on how many people do covers of the song Reflection. Everyone covers that song and it isn’t a very challenging song so I never understood why everyone chose it and now it is just so overplayed that I can’t watch the movie. But the rest of the movie is fantastic and I have always loved the music. Even though I hate the song Reflection, the makeup she is wearing in that song and Honor To Us All is pretty much the only thing I could think to pull from the movie that would be relevant to my blog. And I love Honor to Us All so I don’t completely mind haha. Also, I’d really love for anyone to be able to tell me what this makeup is called, I was always under the impression that Geisha was Japanese so I was wondering what the word would be for the Chinese version, if any. All I know is that they wore Hanfu during this ceremony.

Here is the makeup for the songs Honor To Us All and Reflection:

Bringin’ a lil bit of honour to my family but I’m in my pjs so how much could I really be bringin’ (je ne regrette rien).

For this part of the makeup, I used NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, but I wish I hadn’t. I’ve been wanting to get face paints for things and this would have been one thing that would have really suited face paint but I did what I could with what I had. The issue with the Jumbo Pencil is that it shows all of the dry patches that you have and prior to using the pencil, I had no visible dry patches. I blended it out the best I could with my finger and tried with a beauty sponge but it just took too much product away. So, this base part was extremely time consuming because I wanted it to be even. The lips were a combination of Milani’s Best Red and Gerard Cosmetics’ Candy Apple gloss. I over drew my lips into two crescent moons to look like Mulan’s did in the movie. I used the Savvy Powder Blush in Rose but I wished I’d picked something cooler toned. I had originally picked a bright pink blush but Mulan’s actually isn’t that bright, it’s just very pigmented. And for the eyeshadow, I used Matt Hung from theBalm’s Meet Matt(e) Nude palette.

A very sad Mulan. Also, what was on her sleeve because her makeup just comes off in one swoop.

This part kinda reminded me of Nikkie Tutorials’ Power of Makeup video that’s gone viral. All I did was carefully run my makeup wipe down the centre of my face, being really careful around my lips because I didn’t want to smear red on to the white part. This was probably the part that was most fun for me because of how easily it just wipes off. LIKE MAGIC. It was in this time that I took the most snapchat photos of this makeup look because it just looked so ridiculous and I was so worried that someone would come home and see me like that hahaha.

Disney Week: Toy Story Tsum Tsum Mug!

Today is the anniversary of Toy Story 3 and I was really thinking about what I wanted to do for this look to keep this challenge interesting. So far, you’ve seen two makeup looks and one Disneybound so I thought that I might do something that isn’t makeup related but it is art related. I was talking to Procrasticaitlan about ideas for today and she was talking about painting mugs and I thought that that would be a great idea for Toy Story!

Here are progress pictures of my Disney Tsum Tsum mug!

11414389_10153193513217530_472514988_n
At this point in my mug painting progress, I was pretty proud of myself. I haven’t painted in 3 years and when I did it was on a canvas, not a little mug. But I figured that I paint on my nails all the time so this shouldn’t be too hard. I thought that Jessie, Woody and Buzz all looked like their little Tsums in the game so I was very happy to post a progress shot to instagram.

11420001_10153193513187530_1885455967_n

I had to relocate and I feel like this was were I had my biggest let down in mug progress. I had to use a new blow dryer to dry the paint so that I could finish this quicker and it sprayed black dust on to freshly painted base shapes for Lotso and the Alien. To fix the Alien, I had to make him bigger and then he got too big. Later on I added Ham and he looked pretty cute. He’s right down the bottom, you’ll be able to see him better in the next picture.

11292827_10153193513207530_1570274858_n

After finishing the Toy Story Tsums, I thought I should fill the cup more and I guess this was another bad idea on my part? Here is Anna and Elsa next to Ham.

11349929_10153193513232530_261165652_nHere is where I finished. I added: Alice, Jack Skellington, Tinker Bell, Mike Wazowski and Donald Duck. The brushes that I used were really cheap and they were kinda crap. They ruined some of the eyes that I did on certain characters and just ruined things in general making me feel less and less motivated. I would like to eventually fill this up with even more Tsums, but we shall see. If I do end up filling up the cup, I will post photos here 🙂

I hope that you enjoyed seeing my Tsum Tsum mug for Toy Story 3 day!

Disney Week: Jane Disneybound!

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the premiere of Tarzan, so I thought that I’d do a Disneybound of one of my favourite characters, Jane. Tarzan is probably my favourite Disney movie, to date. And I really wanted to do this character justice but I had so many speed bumps trying to get this together and on the day, I didn’t have anyone to take a full shot of my outfit but I’ll still talk about the items you can’t see.

Here’s the outfit!

11419935_10153186357727530_1183553969_n                                         11208697_10153186357687530_427714098_n

I decided that I wanted to do Jane’s yellow dress for this Disneybound, she’s most well known in this outfit and I thought that it was going to be one of the easiest to replicate. Well I was wrong. I spent three weeks hunting down yellow pants and a jumper that matched. I was lucky to find this jumper really cheap at Temt for only $9.95. It is pretty comfortable but it doesn’t provide much warmth so it is probably best as a layering piece or something to wear in spring or autumn. The shirt I had bought from Taobao over 2 years ago but I’m sure that you can find something fairly similar online or in-store. I had to borrow yellow chinos from my boyfriend for this and I wore brown flats. The necklace was from Target and I only paid $3.50 for it because they were having a sale where everything was pretty much half price and then you take 50% off of the reduced price. It was meant to replicate Jane’s purple ribbon. I parted my fringe because Jane doesn’t have a forehead fringe and I kept my makeup really natural looking.

I hope that you enjoyed this look and I hope that you’re having a great day!

Disney Week: The Lion King

Welcome to the first post for Disney Week! Many Disney movies were released in this week and because I love celebrating premieres, I thought that I’d try to do every single movie that came out this week on each day of this week! So 7 full days of blogging. I’m very excited and I hope that you are too!

So this first post will be about The Lion King! This movie premiered 21 years ago, today and was Disney’s highest grossing film ever. And it still was until Frozen was released. This movie is many people’s favourite Disney movie and for this day, I have chosen to share my Scar makeup!

Scar

Scar is a very well loved character and I think that a lot of that has to do with Jeremy Irons’ voice work for this character. Be Prepared is thought to be one of the best Disney villain songs to date. People just can’t get enough of Scar!

I made the scar with my NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk and set it with a white shadow from my Meet Matt(e) Nude palette. My lips are Sangria by Milani, one of my favourite colours. And I used a darker foundation on my skin to achieve a colour closer to Scar’s fur.

I hope that you’re having a great day!
