One month of 2017 down and that means that there’s only 10.5 months until Christmas! Some of my resolutions this year included being more social and really trying to enjoy life more and stop thinking about negativity and I do think that for the most part, I’ve been really achieving those goals! This month I started a new line of personal study that I’m really excited about, and I’m sure it’ll trickle into this blog at certain times. Anyway, today I want to share my favourites for the month of January. I hope that you enjoy!
1. Prestige Total Intensity eyeshadow in Bewitched
I’d been eyeing this product off for a number of months but Prestige is one of those brands at Priceline that is kinda more expensive than I care to trial, so I don’t buy many products until 40% off sales and things like that. In the past I’ve tried their liners and really not enjoyed them past the swatch on my hand so I was never confident. Due to the poor sales, Prestige is being removed from Priceline and so they’re having 50% off at the moment and so I took this opportunity to buy the shadow and BOY is it the most amazing thing in the world. Every time I wear this I get compliments. It is the perfect blend of neutral and earthy green that is both interesting but not too intense. It is a duochrome shadow with a base colour of a warm, medium brown, with a flash of a peridot green. It is the most epic shade and it really reminds me of NARS Dual Intensity shadow in Pasiphae. Definitely try it out in store if you haven’t already. Now might be your last chance!
2. ELF Baked Highlight in Moonlight Pearls
When I bought this, I hated it. I was so disappointed because I’d seen so many pigmented swatches and no matter how I applied it, it was just dry and it didn’t show up on my face. It wasn’t until someone told me to scratch off the top layer that I got to truly experience this product and now I absolutely adore it. It is a really typical champagne highlight but it is really really affordable. I think it could make for a great dupe of the Balm Mary Lou Manizer, but you would need to scrape off the top layer to get it anywhere near the opacity of Mary Lou. For the price, you can’t really beat it.
3. The Peach Box Jewellery
I was sent some gorgeous pieces from the Peach Box this month and I’ve been sharing them on Instagram but I haven’t talked about them here yet. The Peach Box sells really pretty jewellery for pretty much all tastes. They have three metal colours; gold, silver, and rose, and they have both dainty pieces and statement pieces. I received two bracelets and I’ve been wearing them a lot this month because they just make me happy. I received the Suspended Crystal Bezel Bracelet and the Skinny Roman Empress Bangle, both in Rose Gold (featured above) because I don’t own anything in that metal and I felt that the warmer weather deserved some rose love. For Valentine’s Day, they are giving 15% discount if you use the code ‘pastelsparkles’! I don’t make commission or anything from this, it’s just a little promo for my subbies 🙂
4. Westworld, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and The Crown
I binge watched all of these shows this month and adored all of them! Westworld was especially epic and it left me questioning EVERYTHING. If you haven’t seen it, it is the one I’d recommend watching the most out of all of these shows. I watched the movie before I watched the show so I had a bit more background knowledge of how the story had been presented in the past. The movie was mostly based on the stories of the guests coming to the park, where the tv show is centred more around the robot hosts. It is extremely interesting.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is based on a story by Douglas Adams and if you know any of his work, you sort of know the style of narrative you’re in for haha. It is absolutely crazy and a lot of it doesn’t make sense until the very end but it is so worth it. Stick through it, I promise you’ll appreciate the random at the end. And, of course, stick through it for Elijah Wood.
The Crown is a drama about the end of King George’s reign and the beginning of Elizabeth II’s and the struggles it presented in the royal family’s personal and public lives. I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait for the next season. I think Matt Smith was excellent as Prince Phillip. If you love a bit of drama and a little bit of dramatic insight into the British Royal Family, give this one a go, you won’t regret it.
And that’s about it for this month! Sorry that there aren’t more beauty items! I started playing with newer products toward the end of the month so they’ll likely make it into the next favourites if I love them!
