Disney Week: Kida Makeup

Yesterday was the anniversary of Atlantis: The Lost Empire and I just had to try to do Princess Kidagakash ‘Kida’ Nedakh’s makeup. I mainly wanted an excuse to try and mimic her gorgeous teardrop facial tattoos. I love Kida so much and I feel like she is completely underrated as a character. It actually surprised me how many people didn’t even know who she was when I first showed people photos of this makeup. She’s a beautiful and intelligent character that has such a tragic story. It is hard not to love her! Also warning, I took so many photos because I was so excited about this!

So this is my Kida makeup look:

As most of you know, I’m very pale and I was a little worried about doing this makeup because I don’t want to take away from those who have darker olive skin because Atlantis is supposedly located in the Mediterranean Sea. Apart from its location, Kida herself is described as having tanned skin, blue eyes and white hair. I don’t have any of these features naturally so I needed some extra assistance haha. I used my darkest foundation, L’Oreal True Match in N2 and used a darker pressed powder, Australis Fresh and Flawless in the lightest shade. I love both products but they are both too dark for me, especially now. Thankfully Australis is coming out with new colours of their Fresh and Flawless and I hope that I will be able to find my shade in the new colours! I also definitely want to get True Match in N1, hopefully that will match me.

For Kida’s tattoo, I used two NYX Jumbo Pencils. I used Milk as a base to sketch out the colour and to lighten the next shade, which was Peacock. I like how it turned out, it would have looked nicer if the lines were crisp but we can’t all be perfect like Kida. Kida has beautiful blue eyes, so I thought I’d wear GEO Nudy Golden Blue CH932 contacts and I think that they worked perfectly. They aren’t large but they do have a black outline, which kind of make my eyes stand out more and look a bit cartoony. I also tried to do a neutral eye with big natural lashes to make my eyes stand out even more. Kida has a wing in the cartoon and she also has a pretty pronounced inner corner so I chose to highlight that area a lot instead of using an eyeliner to make it more cat-like. If I’d have had a brown liquid liner, I’d have probably attempted it.

For my lips, I wanted something nice and neutral but not too brown, so I chose MAC Modesty, my favourite MAC lipstick. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without this thing. I also didn’t chop up this wig to make it more accurate because I don’t actually plan on cosplaying Kida anytime soon. I love this wig too much to chop it up so I just took some photos with the middle part of the fringe down. I this that this gave a similar effect without destroying a wig.

When I think about Kida, I think about the little crystal necklace that I used to wear all the time. The Atlanteans wear crystal necklaces to keep themselves alive and I was obsessed with jewelry being so special that you literally couldn’t live without it, so I wore the necklace every day for about two months. I also think about how much I enjoyed Atlantis: The Lost Empire and how I had a crush on Milo.

Anyhoo, I hope that you’re having a fantastic day!
